School for Synodality holds event for Synod delgates in Rome
During the Synodal Assembly, participants have a packed schedule to move through all of the topics with a discerning heart. There are also ‘fringe’ events, optional opportunities hosted by organisations to better inform the Synod of specific contexts and issues.
The School for Synodality, in partnership with Discerning Leadership, held an event for Synod delegates on Wednesday 23rd October, entitled ‘Bringing Synodality Home: building our capacity as a synodal church’.
Avril Baigent said:
“Synodality is a wonderful concept of ‘walking together’ and offers a vision of a listening and discerning Church. But it’s not always obvious how to move from concept to reality, especially when parishes and dioceses are already busy with many demands. This workshop brought together practitioners from around the world, including Estela Padilla from the Philippines, Sr Beatrice from Senegal, Archbishop Jason Gordon from Trinidad and Tobego, and David McCallum and Sandra Chaoul from the Discerning Leadership programme in Rome.
Together we shared the practices and approaches that help us live more synodaly and are possible now. The workshop showed that synodality is not just spiritually wise, but practically a very good way to be church.”
This workshop explored the formation, practices, and resources that can enhance a synodal way and in various ecclesial contexts, such as in church parishes, organisations, dioceses, religious communities and conferences.
Held between 2 and 4pm in the Jesuit Curia next to the Vatican, the workshop participants heard from speakers about their experiences of synodality and synodal formation in a range of contexts, showcasing how this is not one size fits all, but a work in progress. They also came together in small group conversations, heard from a panel of speakers, and then ended with a Q&A.
